Methylene Chloride（DCM）

Dichloromethane/ Methylene Chloride (molecular formula: CH2Cl2) is an important organic solvent widely used in medicine, plastics and film industries. Colorless transparent volatile liquid. Has a pungent odor similar to ether. Dissolved in about 50 times of water, soluble in phenol, aldehyde, ketone, glacial acetic acid, triethyl phosphate, ethyl acetoacetate, cyclohexylamine. It can be miscible with other chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents, ethanol, diethyl ether and N,N-dimethylformamide in any ratio. After pyrolysis, HCl and traces of phosgene are produced. Heated with water for a long time to form formaldehyde and HCl. Further chlorination gives CHCl3 and CCl4.
