mPEG-DSPE is composed of three parts. One end is a methoxy group (-OCH₃), the middle part is a polyethylene glycol (PEG) chain, and the other end is distearoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DSPE). The PEG chain has good hydrophilicity and flexibility, which can increase the water solubility of the drug carrier and, to a certain extent, avoid being recognized and cleared by the immune system, playing an "invisible" role. The DSPE part is hydrophobic and can interact with other lipid molecules to form a stable lipid bilayer structure, which is commonly used to construct drug delivery carriers such as liposomes.
