The 7th Annual Food as Medicine Symposium will focus on Nutrition in Practice: Bringing Patients and Community Back to the Kitchen. Nutrition and medical professionals will present on topics ranging from understanding your food story, gut and skin health, understanding the energy of food, fermentation, the ethics of dietary prescribing/the ethics of the prescribing gluten free diets, traditional healing from America’s Indigenous roots, learning how to get rid of “diets” and focus on eating nutrient dense, and using your kitchen cupboard as a medicine cabinet. Join us for expert speakers, a vibrant vendor marketplace, and a delicious, seasonal lunch!  Conference will be held at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR. Professional attendees have the opportunity to earn Continuing Education Units by attending the two day in-person conference or via live webinar.

Food as Medicine Everyday (FAME) Series

The FAME series is a 12-week hands-on cooking and nutrition program.  Since its start our team has worked with individuals from all over the greater Portland metro area sharing the wisdom of a whole foods diet and presenting the FAME series guiding principles.  We have had a great time working with a wide-spectrum of participants with differing levels of nutrition knowledge knowing that by the end of the 12-weeks they will leave feeling more confident and with a greater understanding of health and nutrition.

Our goal is to motivate and support communities to adopt a more whole-foods based diet by educating and providing the tools to overcome the many obstacles to eating healthy in today’s society.

Our program is founded on the idea that it takes three months (12-weeks) to empower individuals, families, and communities to make lasting and sustainable dietary changes. Within all of the communities we have worked we have seen impressive changes take place in the lives of our participants in just three months.

The FAME Series Guiding Principles:

  • Promote whole foods and low-processed foods.
  • Encourage a diverse, primarily plant-based diet.
  • Include food from healthy animals.
  • Promote anti-inflammatory food choices.
  • Recognize that individuals have unique food needs.
  • Care about food and its sources.
