The Patient Safety Congress and Awards is the UK’s leading health event dedicated to celebrating best practice and sharing learning to improve safety across all care providers. The event, run by HSJ and Nursing Times, attracts 2,000 delegates annually. This will be the ninth Patient Safety Congress, and the second year that the Congress will run alongside the Patient Safety Awards, celebrating our permanent partnership with HSJ and Nursing Times.

The Patient Safety Congress and Awards is the national touchstone for those seeking to provide excellence across services. Our incomparable relationships with the senior ranks of NHS providers and commissioners ensures the service’s board level directors and clinical departmental budget holders join key figures from the patient safety community at the event.

With a nine year history of focusing on the issues that matter most to both senior leaders and practitioners, we are the industry’s leading event. From last year’s work on the business case for safety ahead of Lord Carter’s review, to this year’s theme of workforce engagement: our events take the pulse of the NHS and offer the solutions our delegates are looking for.

Inspiring our workforce: finding solutions with staff and patients

We recognise the increasing pressures facing those working to provide high quality care. From board to ward, this is one of the most challenging periods facing providers in over a decade. Staff have struggled to ensure this doesn’t impact on care quality, but the reality is that without an empowered, healthy workforce, patient safety and experience may suffer.

As such, we will be placing the workforce itself as our central theme for 2016’s Patient Safety Congress and Awards.  Nursing Times and HSJ run this event together to support staff, policy makers and patient leaders to learn, share and celebrate their work together.

Senior clinicians, commissioners and nurses who are dedicated to improving the quality of care they provide must have this essential date in their diaries.

Whether it’s the future of safe staffing levels to integrating services with the support of technology: the Congress and Awards have set a precedent for making a fundamental difference to improving safety and quality in care.
