Allopurinol belongs to medicine class called xanthine oxidase inhibitors. Allopurinol used in the treatment of kidney stones. Allopurinol works by decreasing the production of uric acid in body and prevents the risk of kidney stone and gout.

HOW TO USE: Take Allopurinol tablet once daily orally as directed by doctor. Take this medication with food to prevent the stomach upset. Take medication with full glass of water to get best effect.
HOW ALLOPURINOL WORKS: Allopurinol is xanthine oxidase inhibitor, Allopurinol acts by inhibiting the conversion of xanthine oxidase to xanthine to uric acid. Allopurinol inhibits the uric acid synthesis and prevents the risk of kidney stone and gout problem.
PHARMACOKINETICS: 90% of Allopurinol absorbed in GI track after the oral administration. It takes normally 1.5-4.5 hours to reach the peak plasma concentration.
Almost very small amount of Allopurinol binds with the plasma protein. The half-life of Allopurinol is between 1-2 hours. Allopurinol has rapid renal clearance and almost 80% of drug excreted by the urination.
SIDE EFFECTS: Allopurinol has side effects like nausea, stomach upset, stomach pain, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness. Tell your doctor if you see side effects like numbness, easy bleeding, kidney problem, dark urine, stomach/intestinal pain, eye pain, vision change, Other rare side effects like fever, swollen, rash, itching, dizziness, trouble in breathing.
PRECAUTIONS: IF you have medical history like liver disease, kidney problem, high blood pressure, fasting, diabetes problemtell your doctor about it. Before taking medication tell your doctor if you have allergies to Allopurinol medication.
