Crustaceans can not synthesize cholesterol.

It is necessary to increase the amount of cholesterol in the feed to meet its growing needs.

Crustacean cholesterol can be transformed into sex hormone,

renal cortical hormone.

It is also the substances of synthesizing eclosion hormone .

Sheen et al. (1994) used a semi pure diet on the spot section prawn breeding experment of 63 days.

From the growth and survival rate, we determined that the cholesterol requirement of prawn was 0.2-0.8%.

Shrimp require sterol in the normal growth of the young period, and in all kinds of sterols, cholesterol is the only bioactive substances for shrimp.
