Ectoin is also known as tetrahydromethylpyrimidine carboxylic acid. Ectoin protects halophilic bacteria from harm. It has two major functions:
1) Moisturizing: It is an important substance for maintaining osmotic pressure balance. Its unique molecular structure has a strong ability to complexate water molecules, which can structure free water within cells and is an excellent natural moisturizer.
2) Repair: Ectoin can counteract the damage of ultraviolet rays to the skin and repair the DNA damage of cells caused by ultraviolet rays.
