Recombinant carboxypeptidase B is a Zn2+-dependent metalloprotease that catalyzes the hydrolysis of basic amino acids L-Lys and L-Arg from the C-terminus of polypeptides. With a molecular weight of 33.8 kDa and an isoelectric point of 6.0, it exhibits optimal activity at pH 7.0–9.0. The enzyme's activity is competitively inhibited by arginine and lysine, as well as by metal ion chelators such as EDTA.
