Dextran

Dextran is a polymer of glucose, also known as glucan. It is a viscous complex produced by microorganisms and is one of the raw materials for making drugs. It can combine with iron to produce iron dextran, which is used to treat iron deficiency anemia. It has a low molecular weight and is mainly used for intramuscular injection to supplement iron deficiency that causes anemia. The culture medium is mainly composed of sucrose, a high molecular weight glucose polymer that can currently be used as a plasma substitute to expand blood volume, correct hemorrhagic shock and insufficient blood volume.
