Uses: Avacaitai (trade name Camzyos) is a small molecule cardiac myosin modulator for the treatment of adult patients with symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM). oHCM is a single-gene cardiovascular disease caused by mutations in sarcomere proteins, particularly myosin, that can affect up to 1 in 200 people.
Mechanism of action: Mavacaitai reduces excessive cardiac contraction by reducing actin-myosin cross-bridge formation and inhibiting cardiac myosin ATPase activity. Both of these effects reduce contractility by modulating myosin function.
