Founded in 2016, Zeyuan is located in the renowned “Three Parallel Rivers” area of Yunnan, China — a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site where the Yangtze, Lancang and Nujiang Rivers run side by side.

Yunnan's pristine environment and unique climate offer unparalleled natural advantages for the production of microalgae-based health products. The region's rich biodiversity and pure ecosystem provide an irreplaceable foundation for sustainable, high-quality microalgae cultivation.

 

Zeyuan is a nationally certified high-tech enterprise. It specializes in the production and R&D of a variety of microalgae-based health products, including Chlorella powder, Euglena powder, Haematococcus powder and Chlamydomonas powder. The company also develops deep-processed derivatives such as microalgal tablets and bioactive compounds like paramylon, Galdieria extract blue and astaxanthin.

 

Zeyuan is one of the world’s most reliable and high-quality microalgae producers.

In 2019, the company achieved a breakthrough by transitioning the mass cultivation mode from traditional facility-based agriculture”(photoautotrophic cultivation in open race pondsto fully industrialized large-scale cultivationHeterotrophic cultivation in fully enclosed GMP-grade bioreactorsuccessfully overcoming two major bottlenecks of photoautotrophic cultivation that have long hindered the microalgae industry: low product quality (high levels of heavy metals and microbial contamination) and low production efficiency.

Currently, Zeyuan has achieved industrial-scale production of both Chlorella powder and Euglena powder as well as Haematococcus powder, with an annual output of nearly 1,000 tons in total. Other microalgae under active development include Chlamydomonas and Galdieria sulphuraria.

Zeyuan’s products are exported to markets across North America, Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia, and beyond, making the company the world’s largest producer of eukaryotic microalgae.

 

In February 2025, Zeyuan successfully passed an on-site inspection by the U.S. FDA.

The FDA on-site audit praised Zeyuan’s performance as “incredibly well done” and confirmed that the company passed their inspection without the need for issuing Form 483, a rare and significant acknowledgment of both compliance and quality.

Backed by the strong scientific foundation of the National Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering at East China University of Science and Technology, Zeyuan has developed and industrialized a proprietary platform technology—“Sequential HeterotrophicDilutionPhotoinduction (SHDP)”—along with a series of derived innovations. This platform was developed by our founder, Professor Yuanguang Li, the Chief Scientist of Chinese National 973 Program for Microalgae Research.

Zeyuan has established large-scale production lines with a combined annual output of nearly one thousand tons of three algae powders: Chlorella, Euglena, and Haematococcus. The company also produces valuable bioactive compounds such as paramylon and astaxanthin. It holds certifications including the Food Production License, HACCP, and FSSC 22000.
