NEOMYCIN SULPHATE

Neomycin Sulphate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, predominantly used for its bactericidal activity against gram-negative aerobic bacilli and some anaerobic bacilli. This antibiotic is effective as adjunctive therapy in hepatic coma by reducing ammonia-forming bacteria in the intestinal tract, thereby decreasing blood ammonia levels and improving neurologic symptoms. Notably, Neomycin Sulphate is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, limiting its systemic effects and making it suitable for oral and topical applications, including creams, ointments, and eyedrops.
