    What is Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate?

    Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) is a kind of vitamin C derivative with stable physical and chemical properties. It is processed from vitamin C as raw material. After entering the human body, it is rapidly enzymatically dissociated by phosphatase. It produces VC and exerts the unique physiological and biochemical functions of vitamin C. It also overcomes the shortcomings of vitamin C, which is sensitive to light, heat and metal ions, and is easily oxidized. Sodium vitamin C phosphate, soluble in water, propylene glycol, glycerin, and almost insoluble in ethanol.

    What are the benefits for the skin?

    1. Anti-aging

    Sodium Vitamin C Phosphate is a potent oxygen free radical scavenger that protects the skin from UV damage and enhances the photoprotective properties of sunscreens. Moreover, it has stronger antioxidant properties when combined with vitamin E or vitamin E derivatives, and can improve facial wrinkles and fine lines to a certain extent.

    2. Whitening

    Experiments show that adding about 2% sodium vitamin C phosphate in cosmetics can significantly reduce pigmentation, whiten the skin, and has no irritating effect on the skin. This is because vitamin C sodium phosphate is hydrolyzed into vitamin C after being absorbed through the skin, thereby reducing the formation of melanin, inhibiting pigmentation, and achieving the effect of whitening and freckle removal.

    3. Treats Acne

    In an in vitro study, a moderate concentration of 1% sodium ascorbyl phosphate was shown to have a strong antibacterial effect on acne. In addition, in 76.9% of facial acne patients, the use of sodium ascorbyl phosphate at a concentration of 5% was significantly better than other prescriptions for acne treatment after 12 weeks, and there were no side effects.

    What are the application directions?

    As a common whitening additive, sodium vitamin C phosphate is widely used in various functional cosmetics, such as whitening creams, lotions, facial cleansers, toners, etc., as well as other anti-wrinkle and freckle skin care products.

    2. Compounding with ascorbyl palmitate will also enhance its antioxidant properties;

    3. When preparing cosmetics, sodium vitamin C phosphate should be added at a low temperature of less than 40 °C;

    4. Vitamin C sodium phosphate is the most stable above pH 6.5, and will change color when pH is lower than 6;

    5. Cosmetics containing sodium vitamin C phosphate should be stored in an environment below 25°C after preparation.

    Vitamin C Sodium Phosphate Safety

    1. The CIR Expert Panel has concluded through experimental research that sodium ascorbyl phosphate is safe to use in cosmetics;

    2. The research results of the Australian National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Agency (NICNAS) show that the upper limit of the concentration of sodium ascorbyl phosphate in most cosmetic formulations is 5%, and the upper limit of the concentration in sunscreen products is 1%, otherwise it will cause skin irritation and allergy. and other side effects.

    3. Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate has been included in the 2010 edition of the "Catalogue of Chinese Names of International Cosmetic Raw Materials Standards" issued by the State Food and Drug Administration.
